Has tall, green, grass-like foliage rising upright to form clumps that are between 4'-6' tall and wide. The leaves have small, sharp teeth along their edges. The inconspicuous flowers can be white, pink, yellow, or rust colored. They appear in late spring on stout spikes that rise above the leaves.
The grassy texture of these plants can add a bit of diversity to your yard. Fakahatchee grass can grow to be quite large.

Florida State Tree. Tough and versatile. The trunks are heavy and the canopies dark green. Sabals are a large, robust palm that is a very slow grower reaching as large as 40 ft or so over its nearly 100 year plus life span. The crown is of medium size being 12'-14' across at maturity. The large fronds are a medium green in color and the canopies will become fairly thick when the palms are grown in full sun. This is a cold hardy palm that survives hard freezes to 15 degrees.
One of the most cold-hardy palms available. Has evergreen fronds and a narrow, straight trunk that looks like it's been plastered with burlap. It is beautifully compact and grows to heights of 20'-40'. Windmill palm has a rather slender single stem that is 8"-10" in diameter and is typically a bit narrower at the base than at the top. Trunks are usually covered with a loose mat of coarse gray or brown fiber. In older individuals the fiber sloughs away to reveal a smooth ringed surface.
